Jerry Moore's LIFE IS A CONSTANT JOURNEY HOME

We heard from Jerry Moore, who’s thinking about re-forming the Jerry Moore Work Band and/or Children of God. These acts were staples on the Woodstock music scene in the late sixties and seventies.

Jerry’s brother, Don Moore, was a member of Children of God for a time and he says the group took their name from an Odetta song. The lyric went something like “We are all children of God.” Don says they obtained Odetta’s permission to use the phrase as the name of their band. They were like the Chambers Brothers and their music had a great get-up-and-go vibe. It got people dancing. They had a guitar line plus a trumpet and saxophone players. In 1969 they played the Woodstock Sound-Outs at Pan Copeland’s farm. After the Woodstock festival at Bethel, Michael Lang bought out their management contract.

Jerry Moore plans to debut his re-formed band at Roots of Woodstock Live Concert on 8/15/09.

This is great news! I played guitar for Jerry in the early ’70s. Would love to get in touch with him. If you can help . . . much appreciated!

I had the good fortune to hear Jerry, Don, and The Children of God at the Bearsville Theater last night. It was the best music I have heard in years. I would love it if the band re-formed and brought their music to new audiences. The depth of talent the band has can’t be found in today’s music scene. Brimming with personality, improvisation, joy, and dynamism, this band has to be heard! Make the dream reality! Let’s get down and get back up again…

I saw the Jerry Moore Work Band play lots of times at the Chance in Poughkeepsie. Is my memory going or did they play with Martha Valez a lot too?

    Hello Jerry,
Please tell brother Don I’ve never forgotten him or the influence he had on me in 1973 when I recorded with him and Dahoud and Allan hand, jeff labes, colin tilton et all. His heart and soul was a lifelong inspiration to me. I remember our hours at Stone Sound like it was last week, the friendship and the laughter. And also tell him I’m still in music and making a go of it in Alaska.
All best to you both and your families,
    Steve Durr
